Z250 SNS AllroundLine materials testing machine with side test area

The Z250 SNS is a floor-standing machine with two horizontally arranged test areas. Each of these test areas can be equipped with various tools and managed via the System Configuration Builder. Even predefined parameters such as crosshead positions, software parameters, and test parameters are assigned to their respective test areas. As a result, the testing system is ready for multiple applications at the press of a button. This prevents inaccuracies that result from constantly changing tools.

The side system configuration is freely accessible all around, making it easier to handle large or small specimens, since a lifting device can be used. By adjusting the height of the crosshead you can set the working height comfortably for the test task at-hand and also set it to standing or seated operation. Anti-glare and shadow-free illumination of the complete test area allows for fatigueless operation and prevents measurement errors due to imprecise specimen insertion.

An important trend in the medical industry is the automated injection of drugs via autoinjectors. Reliable self-medication by patients is only ensured, however, if all relevant functions of the injector work smoothly and comply with the defined requirements and standards. For this reason, all of the individual functions of these products are subject to strict regulatory requirements and quality controls. ZwickRoell has a system solution for the automated determination of the actuation force and time, the injection time and speed, as well as the active-ingredient profile and the length of the extended injection needle.

ZwickRoell's portfolio of new temperature chambers is complete with five available sizes. All models have been specially optimized for use with optical extensometers. The benefits are apparent when performing tests that place high demands on the equipment: Determination of the tensile modulus to ISO 527. All new temperature chambers are suitable for tensile modulus measurement to ISO 527 using the videoXens 2-120 HP.

Maximum accuracy
The videoXtens 2-120 HP has already proven its strengths. ZwickRoell array technology enables it to measure with maximum accuracy, without any contact in a measurement range of up to 120 mm. As well as complying with Accuracy Class 0.5 to ISO 9513, this videoXtens also satisfies the more demanding requirements of ISO 527-1 for determining the tensile modulus, and not just at ambient temperature.

Large temperature range
Thanks to the new ZwickRoell temperature chambers, the videoXtens 2-120 satisfies the requirements for determining the tensile modulus to ISO 527 even in a temperature range of -80°C to 250°C. All temperature chambers have been optimally adapted to the optical extensometers. Together they form a closed system which minimizes environmental influences. Temperature control and convection in the temperature chamber are optimized so that extensometer resolution guarantees a maximum level of detail even under temperature. Even the comparatively slight influence of the side panel on the measuring system scaling is compensated for. Compensation can be switched on when in temperature chamber mode by simply clicking in the software.

New standards
With this solution, ZwickRoell is setting new standards in regards to measurement accuracy and satisfies the strict requirements for determining the tensile modulus to ISO 527 in an exemplary manner.

Expanding the clip-on extensometer portfolio for metals, plastics, and fiber-reinforced composites

The line of ZwickRoell clip-on extensometers has been expanded for testing on metals and rigid plastics. Reliable test results are just as important here as simple operation.

Accuracy plus outstanding resolution
The 5025-1, 8040-1, and 7537-1 clip-on extensometers satisfy accuracy class 1 to ISO 9513. They are heat-resistant and ideal for closed-loop strain-rate control to ISO 6892-1 (2009) Method A (1) for metals and ASTM E8 - 09 Method B. They can also be used for testing rigid plastics to ISO 527. The 2501-2 clip-on-extensometer can be used specifically for determining the change in length and width of specimens made of fiber-reinforced composites or metal. This clip-on extensometer is suitable for determining the in-plane shear modulus (IPS) and for determining Poisson's ratio.

Operator influence minimized for reproducible test results
The 5025-1, 8040-1, and 7537-1 clip-on extensometers can be attached to the specimen quickly and securely using one hand. Automatic locking and unlocking of the initial gauge length set eliminates operator influence and ensures reproducible test results.

Reliable measurement of the smallest deformations
The 1002-1 and 2503-1 clip-on extensometers are also ideal for testing the smallest specimens due to their compact design. The high resolution and excellent linearity allow even minute deformations to be measured accurately.

Automatic break location identification for tests to ISO 6892 with optical extensometers

Frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive: If there is a break outside of the gauge length Le during a metals test to ISO 6892, the specimen must be discarded. Our non-contact laserXtens & videoXtens extensometers offer a solution for this: The strain distribution option automatically sets the gauge length Le symmetrically to the break.

Complete specimen in field of view
Optical extensometers have the complete specimen in the field of view during testing. Therefore, it stands to reason that you would use more information (measurement points) on the specimen. This is exactly what the strain distribution option uses. Instead of having two gauge marks, up to 16 equally spaced measurement points are defined on the specimen. During the test, the strains between the measurement points are tracked. The Le is automatically set to the area with the largest strain since that is where the break will occur.

Time and specimen savings
Even if the break is so far at the edge of the parallel specimen length that the LE can no longer be set symmetrically to the break, there is a solution. The option includes the calculation according to Annex I of ISO 6892: Since it is not possible to set the L0 to the break, you take a section of the break as far as possible and add double the adjacent area until you reach the entire gauge length. Annex I describes the option to manually evaluate the strain at break, which is very inconvenient and time-consuming. With our optical systems, the calculation is performed automatically and much more quickly, saving you time and specimen materials.

No specimen markings required
This option is available for laserXtens and videoXtens. Since a specimen marking is not required with the laserXtens, this option saves a lot of time. At testXpo, we will display the option with a videoXtens 3-300 on ribbed steel: Intelligent pattern recognition uses the ribs as markers, therefore making any markings unnecessary in this case as well.

The Amsler HIT series – A suitable drop weight tester for any testing volume

Amsler HIT230F – The small drop weight tester for puncture tests and CAI tests
With a maximum impact speed of 4.4 m/s and drop weights between 2 and 23 kg, this drop weight tester is ideally suited for puncture tests to ISO 6603-2 and for pre-damaging CAI specimens in accordance with various standards. One impressive feature is the excellent test area accessibility, enabling rapid completion of test series including direct feeding of temperature-conditioned test plates. When it comes to efficiency and ergonomics, this impact tester can't be beat.

Amsler HIT600F – The universal drop weight tester for materials testing

Testing at low impact speeds of 2.2 m/s requires a larger drop weight; if testing at 6.6 m/s is required, acceleration is necessary. This drop weight tester covers both requirements, making it the perfect testing instrument for the requirements of many specification standards in the automotive industry. Just like the HIT230F, the HIT600F's feeding and safety concept is optimized for ergonomic use and safety. Simply insert pretempered test plates that are then hit in less than 5 seconds, making a temperature chamber unnecessary for many puncture tests. This impact tester can also perform CAI, Charpy, and Izod tests.

Amsler HIT1100F – One instrument for both materials and components testing
Testing components places particular demands on a drop weight tester. The impact surface of the component is often not at an exact right angle to the direction of impact, which means the guides must be massive. Many components have to be secured in special holders. To facilitate this, the impact tester is equipped with a T-slotted platform for easy arrangement of the tooling. If the test is performed at high or low temperatures, the entire test setup must be housed in a temperature chamber. The Amsler HIT1100F is ideal for this type of testing and, thanks to tooling designed for this purpose, can be used for a wide variety of standardized tests in materials testing.

This impact tester is similar to the Amsler HIT1100F but has a greater impact height and higher impact energy.

Innovative solutions for high-temperature tests

Applications at high temperatures extend from quasi-static tensile, compression, and flexure tests to creep, relaxation, and creep crack growth tests all the way to creep fatigue and thermo-mechanical fatigue tests. Testing systems that are flexible in use are therefore of particular importance for applications in this field. Increasing demands, especially in the field of strain measurement, have led to a considerable expansion in the use of non-contact extensometers. Areas of use include micro-specimens, long specimens such as pipes, brittle-fracturing specimens such as titanium aluminide, sensitive specimens such as ceramic honeycomb structures and high strains. In addition, extensometers must be able to be used at both room temperature and high temperatures wherever possible. An extensometer that combines laserXtens and videoXtens functionality fulfills these high requirements.

Increasing requirements with regard to temperature range call for new solutions. For temperatures over 1,200°C, holding the specimens poses the biggest challenge. A load string including specimen adapters made from a ceramic high-performance material offers a reliable solution up to 1,500°C for metal or ceramic specimens.

For thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF), cyclical thermal and cyclical mechanical loads are coupled. This simultaneous loading is significant during the construction and design of thermal and mechanically loaded components. The thermal and mechanical loading can be in-phase, out-of-phase, or phase-shifted.

To achieve reliable test results at high temperatures, special temperature measurement and control requirements must be taken into consideration in addition to provisions for room-temperature testing.

ToniCAL: Differential calorimeter for measuring hydration heat from cement, mortar, and concrete
The tried and tested, highly accurate, and easy to calibrate heat-flow calorimeter includes a new software that simplifies operation and test evaluation. Early prognoses for the total hydration heat as well as the strength development are possible and conclusions on the setting times can be drawn.
Your already determined test data is downwards compatible enabling data from earlier software versions to be transfered into the software database easily.

ToniMIX: The Mix line includes new electronics with a touchscreen display
In the past few years, Toni Technik developed mortar mixers with expanded functionality for automating the water dosage and for analyzing viscosity; in the process they also emphasized intuitive touchscreen operation. We have combined this operating concept with new electronics that ensure greater compliance with rotational speed standards and processes and integrated these into our automatic standard mixers that are equipped with water and sand inlets. As result, the reproducible manufacture of mortar is even easier.

ToniSET: Temperature conditioning unit
Commercial cryostats are tried and tested instruments; however, our multi-station, automatic Vicat instruments are better equipped to meet industry requirements.
Especially if you are only required to simply comply with the standards, commercial instruments are grossly oversized. We are introducing the ToniSET temperature conditioning unit, which is tailored for these applications, as supplements to new and existing Vicat instruments.
